How Reiki can be a Valuable Therapy for Eating Dis...

While many of us have likely never heard of it, Reiki is a spiritual practice which uses palm healing technique. It is a practice that goes further back than any of our modern medicine practices and of course it does have its far share of skeptics like many forms of alternative medicine do. While eating disorders were not yet seen in culture when Reiki first originated, many practitioners are being to find that there may be some value to using this method on certain patients since it can be used to help connect and heal the whole body. For those suffering from one of the many forms of eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, overeating etc.) the condition may appear to be an outward one since weight loss and gain may be very noticeable but truly the healing must come from within.

 

So How is it Done?

The practitioners use this technique to transfer healing through their palms and onto the patient. There are 2 types of Reiki - Traditional Japanese Reiki and Western Reiki.

This is divided into degrees which are-:

• First degree: The practitioner is able to heal himself and those near him

• Second degree: The practitioner is able to heal others who are far using symbols which is known as distant healing

• Master or Teacher degree: The practitioner teaches other Reiki

 

In Reiki, the practitioners use the set hand patterns to heal internal ailments, diseases and disorders. They believe that there is spiritual life force or energy in every living thing and the practitioner can channel this energy by lying of hands on or near the patient. This way the healing energy within the patient is reactivated healing physical ailments and emotional, mental and spiritual levels. Some believe that healing can occur even when the therapist has not laid hands on that particular place because Reiki knows where to heal.

 

The therapist might take some time to meditate prior to starting the treatment. No medications or instruments are used since treatment is done through the hands only. The therapist places hands on various positions either by laying hands or by placing them a few centimeters away from these positions for a varying length of time. The patient reports feelings of warmth in those positions.

Since Reiki is holistic and heals the whole person then it can be used as therapy for healing eating disorders. Reiki is intelligent and it knows where to heal. When hands are held over the specific positions including over or near the abdomen it releases this energy into the person. Reiki practitioners also believe that the ailment itself activates the healing process and the body begins to heal bringing harmony and well being. The therapy has to be repeated after a few days.
